Show Racism The Red Card May 2017

SRTRC EVENT

May 3, 2017

Dundee United were delighted to host the Show Racism the Red Card team at Tannadice today for an anti-racism educational event with local pupils from St John’s High School. The event was made possible through funding from ArabTRUST who have supported the campaign since it started in Scotland.

The event featured a carousel of educational workshops exploring assumptions about racism, looking at stereotypes and reasons why people move. Following a stadium tour delivered by in-house historians from the Dundee United Business Club, the focal point of the event was immigration, which was made extra special as first team players Tony Andreu, William Edjenguélé, Wato Kuaté and Jassem Sukar joined in during the workshops to share their life stories as immigrants to Scotland. In the afternoon, the pupils had the opportunity to act as media journalists in role play activities and posed some tough questions to Tony, William, Wato and Jassem.

They held a lunch to open a time capsule, designed in First Year by the class under the guidance of Mrs Christie [then Miss Rourke]. The pupils deposited pictures, questions to their future selves and other memorabilia. The time capsule was opened at the lunch and the contents reviewed. All had a nostalgic time!
