S2 Geography

Plate Tectonics :- Volcanoes, Earthquakes and Tsunamis

  • To learn that continental plates move around the globe and to know what drives this movement.
  • To know how continental plates are distributed and to decide whether this will this change.

           To understand how volcanoes are structured.

 

  • To know what were the causes, effects and responses to the eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980.
  • To write a newspaper article on Mt. St. Helens.
  • To know what causes earthquakes and tsunamis.
  • To know what were the causes, effects and responses to the Kanto and Kobe Earthquakes.
  • To know what were the causes, effects and responses to the Japanese earthquake and tsunami, March 2011
  • To establish why MEDCs (More Economically Developed Countries) are usually better able to cope with a natural disaster than LEDCs (Less Economically Developed Countries).

Ecosystems

  • To know what an ecosystem is.

  • To know the global distribution and characteristics of the major global ecosystems.

  • To understand the main features of a tropical rainforest.,

  • To establish how people adapt to living in a tropical rainforest.

  • To understand the complexities of developing the rainforest and the reasons for and problems arising from deforestation, both locally and globally.

  • To know the main features of hot deserts.

  • To learn how plants, animals and people adapt to living in deserts.

  • To be able to construct climate graphs for different ecosystems.
