Qualification Description:  SQA Retailing: Skills for Work

Day/Time: on both Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 2pm – 4pm

Course Outline/Description:

Skills for Work Retailing has been designed to provide an introductory qualification in retail which reflects employability skills identified as being important by many employers, including those within the retail sector.

Semester 1 - Units to be completed:

  • Retailing: Satisfying Customer Needs F33J 11
  • Retailing: Storing, Replenishing and Displaying Stock F33H 11

 

Semester 2 - Units to be completed:

  • Retailing: Planning and Implementing an Event F33K 11
  • Retailing: Working in Retail F33G 11

 

Assessment Method for each of the Listed Units for this programme:

  • Retailing: Satisfying Customer Needs F33J 11 – Role play, observation and series of questions.
  • Retailing: Storing, Replenishing and Displaying Stock F33H 11- restricted response questions and observation.
  • Retailing: Planning and Implementing an Event F33K 11 - holistic using a folio with relevant templates, candidate review sheets and assessor observation sheets.
  • Retailing: Working in Retail F33G 11- folio, practical activities and observation.

Describe how the pupils will be encouraged to develop Skills for Learning, Skills for Life and Skills for Work:

Skills for Work Retailing will help young people to acquire knowledge and develop skills that will be useful in work and for life in general.

For example:

  • An understanding of the workplace, including their own responsibilities (eg time-keeping, appearance, customer care)
  • How to evaluate their own progress, strengths and weaknesses
  • How to analyse and solve problems
  • How to be adaptable and have a positive attitude to change

The learning environments, the focus on experiential learning and the opportunities to develop employability and Core Skills contribute to meeting the 4Curriculum for Excellence capabilities

F33G 11 – within this unit there are good opportunities for developing aspects of Communication, Using Information Technology and Problem Solving.

F33H 11 – provides the opportunity to develop Numeracy and Working with Others.

F33J 11 – provides the opportunity to develop communication.

F33K  11 – provides good opportunities for developing aspects of Communication, Problem Solving and Working with Others.
