Better Place – Better Health Project 2017

Eighteen of our S2 pupils worked with Students from The University of Dundee from November 2016 to February 2017 on the Better Places – Better Health Project. This project allowed the young people to investigate and deliver their ideas on the current issue -  how do we attract and include everyone to experience the aspects of the city that are emerging, and consider a holistic approach to environmental health and wellbeing?

Our Young people created two models and presented their ideas to Allan Watt, Director of the Waterfront Project and his team.  Our young people received positive feedback from Allan and he plans to speak with them again as some of the ideas presented by the young people are similar to the Waterfront Project’s plans for the city.

National "No Smoking Day"

Next Wednesday 12 March is National ‘No Smoking Day’
An event will take place over the lunchtime period in our school assembly hall. It is hoped that this will raise awareness of the negative effects of smoking to health in general and during this time smoking cessation resources will be available. Several outside agencies including Key To Change, Fairbridge and Young Carers, as well as NHS staff will be contributing to this event by promoting positive mental and physical health and wellbeing and young people will have the opportunity to take part in sports activities. Quizzes and word searches will be available with a number of small prizes to be won and fresh fruit tasters will be on offer for all pupils. ‘Lush’will be coming along to this event and the ‘Youth Bus’ will be on site with workers from Dundee City Council’s youth team.
All pupils and staff will be most welcome to attend.
